Privacy Policy

Your personal information is protected by law, including under the Privacy Act 1998 (Cth) (the Privacy Act).

Suburban University Study Hubs and their contracted providers are obligated to comply with all requirements of the Privacy Act 1988 (the Privacy Act), including the Australian Privacy Principles, as if they were an agency as defined in the Privacy Act.

Under the Student Identifiers Regulation Act 2014, Suburban University Study Hubs have the legislative authority to collect USIs from registered students and provide these to the Department of Education for the purposes of assisting in the administration and/or undertaking of policy development in relation to the Suburban University Study Hubs program.

Personal information

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual or a reasonably identifiable individual. Personal information includes an individual’s name, contact details, course provider, course details, Unique Student Identifiers (USI). The Hub may also collect opinion-based data about its service offerings.

You do not have to provide any personal information, but you may not be able to access the services of the Suburban University Study Hub. Any personal information you choose to provide will be handled in accordance with this privacy statement.

Sensitive information

Sensitive information is a subset of personal information. It includes information or an opinion about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of associations or unions, sexual orientation or practices, criminal record, or health, genetic or biometric information.

Collection of your information

Your personal information is collected by the Southeast Tasmania Study Hub via a student registration process. The Southeast Tasmania Study Hub needs your consent to collect your sensitive information. You do not have to consent to the collection of your sensitive information. By choosing to include sensitive information in your Student Registration Form, you consent to the Southeast Tasmania Study Hub collecting this information. If you do consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time.

Purpose of collecting your information

Personal information is collected by the Southeast Tasmania Study Hub for the purposes of:

Effective establishment and operation of the Suburban University Study Hub to the extent that it provides information about how to tailor staffing levels and support and equipment to the specific needs of registered students;
Regular data reporting as required by the Australian Government Department of Education;

Personal information may be disclosed to third parties, including but not limited to:

The Australian Government Department of Education (in the case of Higher Education students) and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) and the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) (in the case of VET students) for the purposes of:

linking you and your course provider to the Southeast Tasmania Study Hub through the collection of USIs as authorised by Student Identifiers Regulation Act 2014, (see the ‘USI Student Factsheet’ for further information);
informing future policy development, research and evaluation related to the Program and broader tertiary education policy.
Your personal information may also be de-identified, aggregated and disclosed to the above Australian Government departments for program reporting and evaluation purposes.
