Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to use the Study Hub?

We welcome all students currently enrolled in tertiary education, which includes university and vocational education (TAFE), whether studying online, externally, or on campus. If you’re enrolled with any Australian university or Registered Training Organisation, you can register to use the Study Hub as your academic base.

Students studying on campus at UTas or TasTAFE are also welcome to use the Hub outside of their scheduled contact hours.

If you’re exploring your options for further study or returning to education after a break, you’re invited to visit us during business hours to learn more about what’s possible and how we can support your journey.

Please note, you must be over 18 to register.

If you are in grades 11 or 12 and are considering university or TAFE, please join our waitlist so that we can keep you in the loop, and support you as you consider your options for further study.

Registered students have access to a range of free resources and supports designed to enhance their study experience. These include:

  • Flexible study spaces for quiet or collaborative work
  • Free Wi-Fi and printing
  • Academic support resources and drop-in sessions
  • Access to workshops and events focused on study skills, wellbeing, and career development
  • Opportunities to connect with other students through social activities
  • Tea and coffee facilities in a welcoming, student-friendly environment

The Study Hub is a space where students can feel supported, stay focused, and build connections throughout their learning journey.

You can register online via the button at the top of our menu bar, or swing by the Hub to collect a paper registration form. Once registered, we will reach out to you to organise a time for an induction to the Study Hub.

Our services are free for registered students!

Our staffed opening hours are 8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Once registered, students can access the study hub from 7am – 10:30pm, 7 days a week.

The Study Hub is a dedicated space for registered and inducted students only. However, we understand that many students balance study with caring responsibilities. Young children are welcome when accompanying a student who needs to use a mentoring room for a tutorial, private meeting, or quiet study time.

The Hub also provides baby change facilities to support students with young children, helping to create a more inclusive and flexible study environment.

We strongly believe that students are more likely to thrive when well connected to their community networks. The Study Hub will provide many opportunities for students to meet and work together. These include:

  • Monthly social events
  • Academic workshops
  • Support with the creation of study groups

Students can access help with a range of academic skills and study-related tasks, including:

  • Navigating subject choices and university systems
  • Managing time and planning study schedules
  • Understanding assignment questions and rubrics
  • Developing academic writing and referencing skills
  • Receiving feedback on assignments
  • Accessing workshops focused on study strategies and academic success

Support is available through drop-in sessions, workshops, and one-on-one guidance tailored to individual needs.

Yes, you can! The Study Hub is equipped with charging stations for laptops and mobile phones, so you can stay powered throughout your study session.

Our private study rooms also allow you to connect your device to larger screens, making it easier to share or view content during tutorials, meetings, or solo study.

Yes, you can. We have laptops available for casual use in the Study Hub, and can also have a limited number of laptops that can be loaned for free from the Hub.

That’s a completely valid question, and one many people ask when thinking about their next steps. Higher education can open up new opportunities, but it’s not a one-size-fits-all path. If you’re unsure, the Study Hub is a great place to explore your options in a low-pressure environment.

We can help you:

  • Understand what university or vocational study involves
  • Explore different course types and study pathways
  • Talk through your goals and interests
  • Connect with resources and organisations that support decision-making

We love showing people around our amazing learning space. To organise a tour, send us an email to study@bestas.com.au.
