About the Hub

Where Students Connect, Learn, and Succeed

The Southeast Tasmania Study Hub is a welcoming, inclusive space that supports tertiary students studying online or locally in our region. Located in Sorell in the Southeast Training and Jobs Hub, the Study Hub is supported by the Federal Government through the Suburban University Study Hub Program.

Our mission is to improve access to higher education and help students succeed — academically, socially, and personally. We believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they live or how they study. The Hub provides a supportive environment where students can connect with others, access resources, and feel part of a learning community close to home.

Meet the Study Hub Team

Sophie Ross

Student Support Coordinator

Whether it’s finding the right resources, understanding assignment requirements, navigating assessment rubrics, or making sense of feedback – I’m here to support you every step of the way.

I have taught and coordinated units at the University of Tasmania, so I understand the ups and downs of student life firsthand. If you need help accessing academic advice, mental health support, or external services, I can connect you with the right people and resources. And if you just need a cuppa and a chat, you’re always welcome to ask, or book a time above.

Some of the things I love to do outside of work include bushwalking, gardening, reading and spending time with my family. An eternal student, I’ve also taught myself to crochet. Feel free to come and say hi!

Jason Massie

Study Hub Manager

I’ve spent much of my career working in apprenticeships and recruitment, helping people find the right pathways to build their futures.

Now, I’m proud to be leading the implementation of the strategic vision for the Southeast Tasmania Study Hub — a space designed to support students in their learning journey and help them thrive.

I’m passionate about improving the educational experience for all students, especially those studying remotely or juggling study with other commitments.

For me, it’s all about creating a welcoming, practical, and empowering environment where students feel supported and connected.

Meet Our Advisory Committee

The Study Hub is guided by a local Advisory Group made up of representatives including registered students, a representative from the BEST Board, members of the higher education sector, and individuals from educational associations and the broader community. This group plays a key role in shaping the direction of the Hub, ensuring it meets the needs of students and reflects the strengths and values of our community.

Together with BEST and our advisory group, we’re building a stronger future for tertiary education in Southeast Tasmania.

We work as part of the Business and Employment Southeast Tasmania (BEST) team

The Southeast Tasmania Study Hub is proudly hosted by Business and Employment Southeast Tasmania (BEST), making it one of a small number of Study Hubs in Australia to operate alongside a dedicated Employment and Training team.

This unique partnership allows us to offer students and community members access to free, local employment advice and support, creating a holistic environment where education and career pathways go hand in hand. By working closely with the BEST , we’re able to connect students with opportunities, build confidence, and strengthen the link between study and meaningful employment outcomes.
